Below the waterline, they’re praying for the sunrise
Across the darkened city, waiting for the light
Perched on trees and rooftops, hear the distant cries
Above the dirty water, is it four days, is it five
But above the waterline, you’ll find a brighter day
Beyond these fears and heartaches we’ll see a better way
There’ll come a time when we will find
That we can leave this all behind
And then I’m gonna spend my time

Below the water line, they’re searching for the memories
Sifting through the remnants of things that might have been
Some will cry and some will pray and some just stand in silence
Wondering if they’ve got the strength to start it all again
Below the waterline, we can’t see the water rising
Deafened by denial, blinded to our fate
Surrounded by warning signs that we’re not recognizing
Nestled in our comfort, we’ll wait till it’s too late
